Consumers often follow the logic that a higher percentage means a higher amount of the active substance itself. Consequently, they choose products that claim high percentages of bakuchiol on their packaging, often unaware that brands use marketing tactics like these by incorporating lower-purity bakuchiol, bakuchiol diluted in plant oils, bakuchiol complexes, or even blending bakuchiol with babchi oil into their formulations. Babchi oil contains only trace amounts of the active component bakuchiol and also contains psoralen, a phototoxic compound—making babchi oil unsuitable for daytime use.
